FAQ

What is Health Coaching?

Health coaching is a supported self-management intervention (NHS). It is a partnership between the coach and you, the client. Health coaching empowers and support you to play a more active role in taking care of your health and wellbeing and to be able to make healthy and sustainable lifestyle choices. It is a goal-oriented partnership achieved through regular coaching sessions that will challenge you, help you work on your health goals and to transform those goals into action.

Who is a Health Coach?

We all have that innate ability to understand what is good for us but implementing those changes can be a bit challenging or overwhelming. A health coach, like your personal cheerleader, helps you make those changes and overcome the obstacles on your health journey.

Health Coaches are trained professionals in various aspects of health and body system, nutrition, physical activity, and lifestyle. Through the use of positive interviewing techniques, they empower you to identify existing issues and encourage proactive participation in preventing new and existing illnesses.

What can a Health Coach not do?

A health coach cannot diagnose or treat medical conditions and is not a substitute for professional medical advice and treatment. They also cannot write diet plans, recommend supplements or prescribe functional testing. However, they can help you overcome mindset blocks and build better health habits.

How do you know if you need a Health Coach?

Here are some ways to know if you are ready to work with a Health Coach

  • You want to make changes to improve your health but don’t know where to start.
  • You are frustrated with yourself as you start a health routine but find it difficult to stick to it.
  • You are overwhelmed with plethora of health advice available but unsure of what will work for you.
  • You are looking for an accountability partner so that you can get your health and fitness on track but without making it a burden.
  • You feel ready to work with someone who can look at your daily routine and general life (including the stressors), and help you make adjustments or changes that will improve your health.

How are the sessions structured?

We start with an initial consultation lasting 60-90 minutes, where a detailed assessment of your current health status, daily lifestyle and goals is done which is followed by setting specific objectives and creating a personalised plan. Regular follow-up sessions which are around 45-60 minutes focus on checking progress, providing guidance and offering specific yogic techniques from posture, breathwork or meditation. Continuous support is available through email or text messages and through resources to aid your journey.

Are all the sessions online?

The sessions are online but if you live in Aberdeen we can arrange to meet in-person.
