A Gentle End Of The Year Reflection

18th Dec 2025

Almost everyone I have spoken to in the last couple of weeks has said the same thing: this year went by so fast. Probably, we  say this every year and yet this one felt different. It hasn’t just passed quickly, it has kept many of us on our toes the entire time.

There seemed to be very little gap to process things. One thing flowed into the next, leaving hardly any time to pause or absorb where we were. Moments meant for rest too carried a sense of urgency, as if we were always slightly behind, always catching up. Now, as the year comes to a close, there is often pressure to immediately look ahead. New goals, fresh routines, a sense that January should arrive with a lot of clarity and motivation for the whole year. But before doing that, I invite you to pause.

The end of the year is not just a finish line. It is a threshold. A quiet moment where you can stand still and look back without judgement and without needing to draw conclusions. We often measure a year by what we achieved but sometimes things are not that visible. They might live in the small, quiet moments. The days you chose rest over pushing. The times you listened to your body. The boundaries you held even when it felt uncomfortable.

This year may have brought growth and joy for you or it may have felt uncertain and demanding. For many including me, it was likely a mix of all of this. So whatever energy 2025 brought for you, it deserves to be acknowledged.

End of the year 2025- Gentle Questions to sit with

As you sit with the closing of the year, you might gently reflect on the following. There is no need to answer everything at once. Let the questions settle and return to them in your own time.

What carried me through this year? This could be a person, a routine, a practice or something within you that you relied on more than you realised.

When did I feel most like myself? Not the most productive version of you but the most authentic one.

Where did my energy feel supported? Any activity, person or ritual that brought you genuine peace, consider making it non-negotiable in the year ahead.

Where did my energy feel drained? Any activity, commitment or person that consistently left you feeling depleted. Naming it is the first step toward changing or releasing it.

What am I ready to release? Perhaps it is perfectionism, procrastination or the habit of putting others first at your own expense. Choose one low return habit to let go off.

What’s your one word for 2026? A word that captures how you want to feel or live. It could be something like connection, creativity, firmness or ease. Let this word quietly guide your choices.

There is no need to turn this into a task or a list. Reflection can unfold slowly. On a quiet walk, over a warm cup of tea or in a still moment before sleep. Before setting intentions or making plans for the year ahead, allow yourself to honour where you are right now. Not where you think you should be but where you actually are.

You don’t need to start the new year with certainty. Sometimes, it starts with acceptance and that is more than enough.

Wishing you growth, abundance and joy in the year ahead!
